Modern guitars are synonymous with Jeff Babicz (pronounced BAA-bits) because the concept of modern is also synonymous with innovation. Jeff is undoubtedly an innovator and in no small way. His high-end acoustic and electro-acoustic guitars have garnered rave reviews from guitarists spanning the globe.
So… what has Jeff done with guitars that are new and different and truly innovative? The most obvious difference, at least from a visual standpoint, between Babicz guitars and anything that has gone before is the way that the strings are anchored to the soundboard.
Traditionally this is done right in the center of the soundboard and because that is the weakest area of the soundboard, strong internal bracing is therefore required. The six steel guitar strings, in standard tuning, pull the string anchor towards the head stock with about a thousand pounds of force.
Three Patents – One Guitar
Babicz guitars use a patented string anchoring system, called Lateral Compression that anchors the strings out near the edge of the soundboard in a very noticeable fan pattern. This reduces the need for strong bracing in the center of the soundboard, thus freeing it up so that it resonates more naturally.
Another patented innovation used in Babicz instruments is the Torque Reducing Split Bridge that improves string alignment and intonation.
Patent number three is the adjustable neck common to all Babicz guitars. With a simple adjustment, by Allen key, string height can be varied to suit different playing requirements without throwing the instrument out of tune.
Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree talks about Babicz Guitars
All in all, these three remarkable innovations serve to identify Babicz guitars as modern guitars. And musicians love them! Porcupine Tree’s Steven Wilson, Todd Rundgren, Judas Priest’s K. K. Downing, Tommy Emmanuelle and countless others all praise the buttery-smooth playability, the cello-like bass tones and the instruments’ reliability.
Starting at a little over a thousand bucks, Babicz guitars aren’t cheap but they represent one great value. Anyone in the market for an outstanding acoustic guitar needs to test drive a Jeff Babicz model before making a decision. It’s that simple.
