Falling Waters (March 8, 2006) Out of all the pieces I have built over the years, this is one of my favorites. I just finished this commission last Thursday. The client had recently built a Frank Lloyd Wright inspired home, and is in the process of furnishing it. I was asked to design/build a lamp based on Frank Lloyd Wright architectural influences. This is what I came up with... inspired by the tower at Falling Waters, probably FLW's most famous design. ![]() The base is sandstone, the "spine" is Honduran Mahogany with quilted Honduran Mahogany and Ebony accents. The shade is made from Pau Ferro and Washi. The glow that emanates from this piece is stunning. I'm extremely happy with how it turned out. The next commission I'll be working on this month is what I call a "Mojo Box" or "Karma Chest". It's a tall, doored and lidded, highly detailed "box". I've been wanting to build something like this for years, and now I finally have the chance. I'll tell you more about it next time... |
