Jazz for Peace and News from the Front Line (September 8, 2006) Hello again fellow musicians. Major gigs are happening. Google Montpelier Arts Center. Look under events . You'll see my quartet will perform one week after Cedar Walton. Needless to say, it's no $100 gig. Point is, hang on to your dreams and play humane music(original and classics) that will get the attention of musicians and non-musicians first and foremost. Musicians are here for the non-musicians mainly. Look at the baddest, most modern innovative guitarist, "real deal jazz" George Benson, who will make you want to dance and marvel at the soul connection he truly has with his instrument, which is so precise and technically proficient. I heard some of the great clones of his and Django's styles. I can imagine how frustrated they are if they are really serious about being their own person. Many obviously can't do it or won't! Special nods to Kenny Burrell from my vantage point. What a connected player who tells great "stories' on his instrument. It's a shame Oprah won't interview them and would rather have Chris Botti. Guess the the truth always has a way of showing a person's ignorance, if the observer isn't as ignorant in a specific area. It seems that much has been done to destroy the most important jazz innovators' culturally significant contributions. Until later! |
