Follow-up: Guitar Setups (February 2, 2006) Jim Mapson responded about nut action. He replied, "Nut action fretted between the 2nd and 3rd over the first fret is, 001-.002, best for flat strings and stable necks. Watch out for acoustics and other strings." This was done myself without knowledge on my 1996 Gibson L-5, which I set up by basically using no relief and lowering the wood saddle slots and nut so it feels as even as possible string-to-string from the first to the last. None of the so-called expert local repair guys I know will even dare think about setting up the guitar so it plays so easy! |
