And the Fat Lady Sings (December 30, 2005)
![]() I can hear it. The shrill warblings of an enormous female, shrieking at the top of her lungs. Yep, the fat lady is singing at the end of another year. Move over 2005, we are heading forward. Into 2006. And I wanted to wish everyone at Modern Guitars a very Happy New Year. Be safe, don't drink and drive, and turn up the volume!! What a year its been for me. Camp Freddy has gone from strength to strength, and we have some amazing plans for the coming year. We played to 15,000 people at the Tsunami benefit concert. Opened yet another club in our home away from home, Las Vegas. And they STILL kept us on air at Indie 103.1FM. Despite weekly madness from Navarro and myself, Camp Freddy Radio goes into its third year. Unbelievable. Doheny died, and another project was born. Hopefully we can do something next year. Plans are afoot and I will tell all when I have something to tell! I did a movie and some fun television stuff. I learnt how to design a website (now THAT shit is like advanced Calculus Mathematics!!!). Check out the site at www.billymorrison.net, and the new extracurricular site at www.kingmobmusic.com. Now, what else?....Swam with sharks, shot some amazing guns ...... and found myself even more in love with my wife. I could not have asked for any more. ![]() January sees the coming NAMM show in Southern California and I will be at the Gibson Guitars booth on Saturday Jan 21st. If you are coming down to NAMM, be sure to stop by and hang out for a bit. Oh, and by the way, there is currently a nice feature on my good self at the Gibson website in the NEWS section. I also want to give a shout out to Dennis over at ProTone Pedals. He has supplied me with some cool looking shit for my pedal board, and I will be giving them a full workout very soon. If they sound half as good as they look, then I am laughing. Oh yes, and I just got my hands on the new Yamaha Navarro signature model acoustic (yes I DID pay for it!!!) and not only does it sound beautiful and play like a dream, it also looks killer in my house (which is all white, just like the guitar!!) By the way, while I remember - I want to warn every young aspiring guitar player out there of the widely known disease that strikes most players at one time or another. It has no known cure at this time, and can be a terrible affliction if you are affected by it. Of course, I am talking about ROCK FACE. Beware of this disease. It can take you out without warning. See the picture below for proof!!! ![]() Finally, if you want a real fun afternoon, go and visit your local Guitar Center or music retailer. I had to go into one yesterday to grab a guitar stand, and it really was the most insane thing I have ever seen. All of them are having these crazy sales (Guitars for one dollar!!!) so in addition to the usual crowd of wannabe Malmsteens and Satrianis, there are now thousands of sale shoppers looking for that extra bargain. People who should, by law, be banned from even approaching a drum kit, are banging away like their lives depended on it. 75-year-old ex-concert pianists are in the keyboard department playing Frank Sinatra's greatest hits on a Casio half size keyboard. And to top it all off, you've got idiot boy from the Valley who knows everything about everything, trying to convince a harrowed 17-year-old sales assistant that a Fender Trashocaster sounds better if you turn it up 'just a little more'. Oh.....My.....God. Happy bargain hunting people. Thanks be to Modern Guitars, thanks be to everyone who reads this, and a huge HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone. Peace and Love for 2006. Billy |
