Another Riveting Entry  (November 25, 2005)

Oh Boy. Its been a while. You decide you'll learn a little bit about websites and how they work, and the next thing you know, three months have gone by, you've eaten nothing but Power Bars, and your eyelids are stuck in the open position for ever!! I have never been able to do anything in moderation, and the decision to understand websites, Dreamweaver, CSS, HTML and a thousand other geeky things was probably not my wisest move. I should have stayed in the dark. Should have continued to obliviously pay other people to do stuff for me. But Oh No.... I couldnt leave it alone. HAD to stick my nose in. And now, the end result is that that I have a tiny bit of knowledge - enough to know that I could be dangerous!! Now I fiddle about, tweaking and changing stuff on my sites, getting completely frustrated, breaking things and spending days trying to fix a mistake. I REALLY should have stuck to making music.

So other than diving into the world of Geekdom head on, what else has been going on? Well - Camp Freddy continues to thrive. We went to Vegas (again!) to do the opening of The Empire Ballroom, and the show rocked. Pink got up with us and sang the Led Zep classic, Whole Lotta Love, and we played for about an hour and a half. We return to Vegas next week to play The Palms Casino (the club Rain) for the last show of the year. Its a Camel Cigarettes show - part of their Sin City tour, and the whole evening looks to be amazing. Hosted by Carmen Electra, and featuring comedian Johnny Fayva (who will no doubt end up on stage with us, as he has done before) we are planning to close 2005 with a bang. We have some cool plans for next year, so keep yer eyes open for more news.

Radio has been playing a big part in my life recently, as Camp Freddy Radio on Indie 103.1FM goes from strength to strength. Dave (Navarro) my partner has begun to webcast the show, using an I-Sight camera and a laptop. And he has also begun doing home radio shows, podcast on I-Tunes. We did a show together last night - a Thanksgiving special, if you will. Its so much fun, and with the Podcast, there is no FCC to worry about. Let me put it this way - where else can you hear two guitarists interviewing a gay guy and a lesbian about the relative differences of the two genitalia ...... and then dropping straight into some choice Pantera rock and roll!!! I mean COME ON!!! I smell a Sirius or an XFM deal in the offing!!

As I said in the last journal entry, I got myself a JCM 2000 to add to my arsenal of amp heads. I truly believe that it is a great sounding head, and a welcome addition to my collection. But WAIT ..... what's this I see? Reissue JCM 900 heads, available in the UK only? Oh Christ! Now I HAVE to get one of those - what if my original 900's go down? Is there no end to my obsessiveness? Is everyone like me? I mean, I cant play all the guitars and amps at once. So why is it so important to me to keep getting more shit? I believe that my wife is waiting patiently for the answer to that question!!

I read, with interest, the interview on this site with singer/songwriter Geoff Byrd. I was invited to go down and see him play the other night and he blew me away. A huge guy, wearing a cowboy hat, singing in falsetto, and playing a Gretch. YES!! So I believe we will be writing a tune or two together soon, as we are being put together by songwriter Jed Leiber, who I have worked with many times before. I think it will be an interesting combination and I'll let you know how it all turns out. Watch out for Geoff. He's comin' for ya!

OK - Seeing as it's Thanksgiving weekend, and there is SO much Retail Therapy to be done, I better get off now. Apologies to anyone who actually reads this, that it takes me so long to post, but I do love having this journal on the site. I just get caught up in so many other things and the time just slips away from me. I think that 2006 will bring a lot of music-related journal entries as I have a few things in the pipeline that might or might not pan out. Who knows with this business - all you can do is enjoy the process, and leave the results up to the Big Man upstairs, right? So thats what I do. Make music, have fun, and remain thankful for everything I have in my life. Including being allowed to write whatever I feel like on this site! Not a bad lot, really. Till next time - Peace And Respec' to y'all.

Billy
