Star Wars in Da House (February 23, 2005) ![]() "Hello? Is that Billy Morrison? Would you like to play some guitar with R2D2 and C3PO as part of a Discovery Channel Star Wars documentary?" That was the phone call I got a couple of weeks ago. Bizarre, but very true. I shot the stuff last week, and got to do scenes with Anthony Danielsm the actor who played C3PO in all the movies. And the real remote control R2 unit was there as well, buzzing about and being all 'droid like'. It was for a show called "The Science Of Star Wars" which airs in 150 countries and 33 languages during May. It was really fun to do - I pop up on a huge flat screen monitor and explain to the droids all about the new Gibson Digital Les Paul. Crazy stuff! Camp Freddy played 'the big arena rock show' last weekend as well. We did the Music For Tsunami Relief Benefit gig at the Arrowhead Pond in Anaheim, and we came on as the finale, after Jurassic 5, Linkin Park, Jay-Z and No Doubt. Very weird to be playing after these bands, but it went fine. We had Rob Zombie, Cypress Hill, John 5, Billy Duffy, Gavin Rossdale and Richard Patrick as special guests, and managed to pull it off, despite Ozzy cancelling as our final guest due to an unforseen family emergency. I am going to be painting and decorating soon - no, I haven't changed houses - Gibson have asked me to customize an SG for a Breast Cancer benefit that happens at the L.A. Hard Rock Café on May 3rd. I am in good company as AC/DC, Joe Perry, and Rod Stewart are all doing the same thing. Not sure what I'm going to do yet, I'll wait until the guitar is in front of me, but I can promise it'll be weird and wonderful. What about latex and leather strips glued to the body? Hmm, a rubberized Gibson, now there's an idea! Lots going on in my world right now. We continue to record the Camp Freddy album. Today is a vocal day with Donovan and myself, and then we get stuck into some serious editing (my favourite part of the process). I get lost in the waveforms, making every piece of audio exactly how I want it. We get to play with all the wonderful plugins that Pro Tools has to offer and I emerge from the studio three weeks later with a kind of 'glow-in-the-dark' complexion and about 20 pounds lighter! Ok, so I need to go get my shit together and get started with my day. Just wanted to post an update, as I havent been able to get on much these last couple of weeks. If anyone wants to know anything specific, or wants to ask me questions, feel free to do so. A big shout out to Modern Guitars for keeping it real and fresh and developing what I consider to be the best place on the web for guitarists. See you next time. Peace. Billy |
