Rocking the Key Club (January 29, 2005) So, Camp Freddy decided to play a Tsunami Benefit show at The Key Club in Los Angeles. Announced over the radio weeks before (without telling anyone, including the club) it was kind of thrown together with the help of the club and Indie 103.1 FM. A huge thanks to Michael Steele, Carrie, Brent, Deb, Kim, Joe and everyone who made the night a big success. The show took place last Thursday and I cannot describe how off the hook it was! Completely sold out, with a line of people up the street trying to get in (sorry folks - didn't realize it would be that popular. Next time, we'll do it at a bigger venue). We were joined onstage by a whole slew of guest artists including Slash, Jerry Cantrell, Courtney Love, Linda Perry, Steve Stevens, Terri Nunn...the list went on and on. We all had so much fun - played for well over an hour and the audience was amazing. Totally unlike the usual 'too cool for school' L.A. crowd - the place was cheering and jumping up and down the whole time. Highlights for me were doing "Man in the Box" with Jerry and Terri, and playing the famous lead line in "She Sells Sanctuary" with Dave's singer, Steve Issacs killing the vocals! A good time was had by all. Lots of Les Pauls all turned up to eleven! Oh my God, I just recieved the new slimline Playstation 2 machine. It is fucking tiny - the size of two CD cases together and about an inch deep - and so quiet with none of that whizzy spinning noise the older machine made. A very cool piece - and it came with the new getaway game - Black Monday. I love it - 'F' Bombs every five seconds and killing crack dealers at every turn. I cannot believe that kids play these games - I shouldnt even be allowed to play this game! It's looking like a fairly quiet week next week. Doheny rehearsals and a few business meetings. I can do with the rest. I'll stock up on snacks and cigarettes and get a bunch of work done in the studio. I have so much video to digitize and edit, plus three new Doheny tunes to work on. I hope I can get through most of it next week and maybe figure out how to get some video up on this column. That's it from me right now. Camp Freddy radio is on again tonight, 6-8 p.m. West Coast time on Indie 103.1 FM and also available on the web at their site - indie1031.FM. Listen in if you can - it's a lot of fun. Have a great weekend. I will back with more ramblings next week. Peace. Billy |
