DVD Review: ZZ Top – Live From Texas (July 8, 2008) by Brian D. Holland.
Guitarist Billy Gibbons gets down and dirty with some crunchy chops on his Gretsch Billy-Bo guitar for a raucous version of “Got Me Under Pressure” to open the show. Dusty Hill’s thumping bass lines and Frank Beard’s driving drum rhythms coerce the song along nicely. The Nokia Theater in Dallas, Texas, gets treated to an evening of blues-based funk and rock ‘n’ roll by their own legendary power trio, a group that’s been thrilling rock fans for almost 40 years. Known for their original blend of blues and rock, as well as for their fashionable dance steps amid whisky soaked vocals and sonic melody, ZZ Top rocks through 122 minutes of some of their finest, recognizable hits. Songs like “Pearl Necklace,” “Just Got Paid,” and “La Grange” rock the Nokia to its limits, proving that a double bass drum set behind a guitar and a bass, all flanked by huge speaker cabinets and Crate tube amps, is all the best garage band in the world needs to satisfy an audience. Let’s hear it fans, “Go get 'em, ZZ!” It's in both DVD and Blu-ray. I’ve linked to both below. 1. Got Me Under Pressure Bonus Features Links: |
