Entry from Tom Guerra About Tom Guerra
Greetings!  (February 8, 2005)

Hi fellow guitar fanatics...this is my first journal entry on Modern Guitars, and it's a pleasure to be here. I have been playing guitar now for what seems like my entire life and an early high point was being featured in the Stevie Ray Vaughan Guitar Player magazine tribute edition, in March, 1991.

Over the years, I have recorded and played with Rick Derringer, Max Weinberg, The Dirty Bones Blues Band, Mark Nomad, Muddy Waters' bassist Charles Calmese, Jaimoe from The Allman Bros., Second Son, Adolph Jacobs of The Coasters, and The Delrays. For the past ten or so years I have operated a small studio called "Casa Del Soul".

Although guitar is my main instrument, songwriting is the reason I play guitar, and I am currently in the process of recording a new CD for my group, Mambo Sons, which also features singer/bassist Scott Lawson and drummer Joe Lemieux. Mambo Sons is an original, guitar-based rock and roll trio, and our first two CDs feature about twenty or so songs in this vein.

In my spare time, I write for Vintage Guitar magazine, and have recently become an endorsee for Brian Moore Custom guitars and DST-Engineering amplifiers.

I love all things guitar, and although I own and play many classic instruments and amplifiers, my main guitar is and probably always will be the Fender Stratocaster. To me, a Strat just feels right, and I sound most like me when I'm playing one.

I have been influenced by many, and my all time favorite players include Rory Gallagher, Paul Kossoff, Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, all of the Rolling Stones' guitarists, and blues guys like the Three Kings (BB, Albert and Freddie), Buddy Guy, and Magic Sam.

I look forward to speaking with you and feel free to browse my site at www.TomGuerra.com to check out the interviews I've conducted for Vintage Guitar, and mp3s from Mambo Sons.

Cheers!
