Illuminasty Duo and Friends (April 5, 2007) Howdy, folks. Here Is another performance I was so honored to particeipate in, painting to some really rad music by the Illuminasty Duo and friends at the Sebastopol Brewery Company on March 28. This was on a small stage, unfortunately, but I was happy to paint even in the corner where I could be inspired by the hot tunes these top notch musicians were belting out. Sorry, I'm on the road and don't have pics of the paintings yet, so the paintings on the wall behind the band will have to do for now. But, hey, it's not always about the PR, besides, if you check out my journal on Modern Guitars you can see what I look like while painting. Illuminasty Duo was amazing. The tunes were so unbelievable that Skerik on sax sometimes sounded to me like a guitar and at times like a really futuristic bass. Man, I was really grooving and painting to that sound. And, whoa, Mike Dillon on vibes and drums - awesome - and Les Claypool sitting in on drums was a cherry on top! Check out the photos below to see a couple of other special guests. More information about Illuminasty Duo can be found after the photos in a press release that came out before the show. Some Linkage Mike Dillon Photo Gallery
Press release (March 12, 2007) The Adventurous jazz group: The Illuminasty Duo featuring Skerik on sax (Les Claypool, Garage a Trois, Critters Buggin,), and Mike Dillon on vibes and percussion (Les Claypool, Ani DiFranco, Hairy Apes BMX) head into The Sebastopol Brewing Company on Wednesday March 28, at 9:00pm $10. Joining Skerik and Mike D is Special Guest DJ Jacques WBLK and Neal Barbosa Performance Painting. Mike Dillon (aka Mike D) is a percussionist and vibraphonist born in San Antonio, Texas. Dillon also performed in the late 80's and early 90's with local Dallas and Denton favorites Ten Hands and Billygoat. He released his self-titled CD in 2003, and has been featured on CDs by several artists listed above among others. In 2006 he started a funky new project entitled "Mike Dillon's Go-Go Jungle." Skerik (née Eric Walton) is a saxophone player from Seattle, Washington. Performing on the tenor and baritone saxophone, Skerik is a pioneer in a playing style that has been dubbed saxophonics. He has performed with Critters Buggin, Garage a Trois, Les Claypool's Frog Brigade (2001) and Fancy Band (2006), Buckethead, Stanton Moore, Galactic, Fred Wesley, The Rhythm Section, Ponga, Sadhappy, Tuatara (with Peter Buck), Mad Season, The Headhunters, Roger Waters and many others. He has recently led Skerik's Syncopated Taint Septet. Also, he has tapped long-time duomates Brian Coogan (organ/keyboards) and Simon Lott (drums) for a band dubbed "Maelstrom Trio," combining disparate elements such as free jazz, funk, metal and textural music. In March 2007, he tours with Mike Dillon as The Illuminasty Duo. |
