Delta Nove (April 22, 2005) Hey thanks for checking out my journal here. Once again I'm on the move painting in my studio (the stage that is). This band was awsome, I first saw them at a jazz fest in Newport Beach, then later in the '05 year I was painting to Acacia at the Gypsy Lounge and talked with Viking - he reminds me of Jesus. We talked and he invited me to paint at one of their gigs. Some info from their website (www.dnove.com): Delta Nove’s diversity is also apparent in the artists with whom they have shared the stage with, including world-renowned artists such as Poncho Sanchez, Burning Spear, Olodum, Gato Barbieri, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Steve Kimock Band, Merl Saunders, King Sunny Ade, Ozomatli, Sound Tribe Sector Nine, and Karl Denson's Tiny Universe are among those who have added their unique talents and influence to the group’s on-stage performance. In addition, members of Delta Nove have performed with great artists such as Carlos Santana, members of the Grateful Dead, Bruce Hornsby, Bobby Caldwell, Los Lobos, Roy Hargrove, members of Parliment/Funkadelic, members of The String Cheese Incident, Fishbone, and champion Brazilian Samba school Mangueira. It was quite a night. It started with me being the first one there at the show at a bar called Coconuts in Dana Point. I sat down and had a Sam Adams, and the best fale migyane (sp? - no i cant spell). Then I saw this white van pull up with a trailor, oh shit, I realized I better get my stuff unloaded and set up before the band unloads all their gear or I wont be setting up any time soon. Wam bam - tarp, paints, boards, brushes, lights cords, paint clothes, mechanics jump suit, towels, and ear plugs, and I'm ready. ![]() This band was so rad to paint to I was painting all night one painting after another, then I realized I had taken no pics of me and the band. The stage was packed and I had to paint off stage so I atempted to get a pic with my easle on stage and you would never know it was staged, but try to get a photo shoot at the end of the gig - impossible. ![]() Here's a painting I did that night: ![]() Check back soon - I have 4 shows to write about: Roco Deluca, Grampa's Grass, and Acacia. |
