Author Tom Wheeler Readies New Book

Tom Wheeler, author of The Stratocaster Chronicles: Celebrating 50 Years of the Fender Strat (Hal Leonard) (review), written in conjunction with the model's 50th anniversary in 2004, follows-up with this summer's release of The Soul of Tone: Celebrating 60 Years of Fender Amps (Hal Leonard). The 400-page hardcover book will no doubt serve as an excellent companion to Chronicles, and, like it's predecessor, comes replete with beautiful photos (over 400), companion CDs, and a foreword by Keith Richards (Eric Clapton did the honors for Chronicles). The currently scheduled street date is June 15, 2007, though advance orders can be placed with most major book sellers. Wheeler, who has written feature story introductions for Modern Guitars, served as editor-in-chief for Guitar Player and has written several other exceptional guitar books. A recent, interesting, and not-at-all-typical, interview with Wheeler by Ignacio Gonzalez is available on Gonzalez's website.

From the review by Tom Watson: "...Though publicists have aggressively pitched this style of music for a few years now, my attitude toward the hyphenated genre [singer-songwriter] was summed up by a phrase from the Robin interview: '...whiny coffeehouse crap.' But as my browser loads McCue's website, "Bright Light of Day" from Koala Motel streams through the headphones and I'm infected." Review »
