William Shatner Receives Unique Acoustic from Gibson Guitar

A number of things should have delighted William Shatner at the April 17, 2009, screening of William Shatner's Gonzo Ballet, a feature-length documentary about the Margo Sappington ballet "Common People" that's set to the music of Shatner's 2004 album Has Been. Shatner fans thronged the red carpet, the film's world premiere at the 2009 Nashville Film Festival was well received and Gibson Guitar celebrated the occasion by presenting Shatner with a unique Gibson J-200 acoustic painted by Nashville-based visual artist Mandy Lawson.

Present at the screening was Ben Folds who produced, arranged and performed on Has Been. He also co-wrote several of the album's tracks with Shatner. The release is primarily Shatner's spoken word prose-poetry set to music, but also features guest appearances by Joe Jackson, Aimee Mann, Henry Rollins and Brad Paisley.
