Dick Boak of C.F. Martin Guitar Elected to NAMM Board of Directors

NAMM, the trade association of the international music products industry, held its Annual Meeting of Members during the 2009 NAMM Show, where a nomination for a new slate of NAMM Board of Directors took place. Dick Boak, who heads up artist and public relations as well as archives for the world renowned Martin Guitar Company is one of eight NAMM Members who were elected to serve on the NAMM Board from January 2009 to 2012.

C. F. Martin & Co. has been continuously producing acoustic guitars that have been acknowledged to be the finest in the world for more than 175 years. The company also makes ukuleles, musical strings and guitar-related accessories.

Boak serves on the Board of the Martin Guitar Charitable Foundation and the Association of Stringed Instrument Artisans (ASIA), from which he received a Lifetime Achievement Award for his service as longtime publisher of ASIA's Guitarmaker Magazine. More recently, he authored the book “Martin Guitar Masterpieces” published in 2003, and the two-volume set "Martin Guitars: A History" (with co-author Richard Johnston) published in 2008.

NAMM’s Board of Directors takes an active role in NAMM’s mission to unify, lead and strengthen the global music products industry, and increase active participation in music making.

“Music is so vital to our society and culture,” said Boak. “As an organization, NAMM has done a great job in letting everyone know the benefits of music education upon the intellectual development of our children. It is so important, especially in difficult economic times, that we don’t allow music programs to be extinguished in our schools. But there is plenty of music brewing outside of school. If I could do one useful thing on the NAMM Board it would be to encourage the conversion of the millions of kids and teens playing Guitar Hero and Rock Band on the couch into viable inspired musicians on stage. Imagine the economic stimulus in that!”
