Taylor Guitars Marks 2008 as a Record Production Year

With a production record of 80,000 guitars, including the introduction of the SolidBody electric and Liberty Tree T5 guitars, new product innovations and expanded international distribution, Taylor Guitars ended 2008 as a record year of growth.

"We are humbled to have experienced such a successful year," shared Kurt Listug, co-founder and ceo. "We recognize that economic times are uncertain and people everywhere are suffering from an increase in prices on day-to-day good and services, but their loyalty and passion for guitar playing continues to fuel our desire to build the very best guitars we can."

In 2008, Taylor set out to usher in new products and expand its global reach. The company kicked off the year at Winter NAMM with the official launch of the SolidBody, generating rave reviews from critics, the industry and players alike. The new models included the SolidBody Custom, the SolidBody Standard, and the SolidBody Classic. Later in the year, Taylor released the SolidBody Classic SC model, featuring a proprietary noiseless single coil pickup. Developed by Taylor's lead designers, the new noiseless single coil delivers strong tonal character, but without the hum, redefining the single coil experience.

Mid-year saw the release of the limited edition Liberty Tree T5 model: a hybrid electric/acoustic guitar, with tops and appointments made from the last Liberty Tree in Annapolis, Maryland that fell victim to Hurricane Floyd in 1999. Experts declared it a safety hazard and order it felled, and Bob Taylor ordered the wood turned into beautiful and musically inspiring guitars. The cream and chocolate colored tulip poplar wood was initially used in a 2002 limited edition run of 400 Liberty Tree Grand Concert acoustic models and later in a limited edition run of Baby Taylor Liberty Tree models. The remaining pieces were turned into 50 Liberty Tree T5 guitar tops, adorned with stars, the constitution, and identified by state.

At Winter NAMM, Taylor announced an expansion of its international reach to Europe and the Middle East through a distribution partnership with Fender Musical Instruments Corporation. In October, a new distribution agreement was formed with Yamano Music Company in Japan.

For the past 35 years, Taylor Guitars has evolved into one of the world's leading acoustic and electric guitar manufacturers. Upon the eve of the company's 35th anniversary, Taylor looks to 2009 with both excitement and anticipation for new products, announcements and continuing growth of the company.
