PRS Guitars has announced the expansion of its Mira electric guitar line by the company's introduction of the Mira Maple Top in three wrap-around finishes: Tri-Color Sunburst, Dark Cherry Sunburst, Whale Blue/Black Burst, Violin Amber Burst and Vintage Natural, each with optional gold hardware. The Mira Maple Top features a mahogany and maple top body, mahogany neck, East Indian rosewood fingerboard with either moon or optional bird inlays, 24 frets, 10" neck radius, 25" scale length and either a regular or wide-carved neck. The instrument also includes locking tuning pegs, Mira treble and bass pickups, volume and tone knobs, a 3-way blade pickup switch and a mini toggle coil tap.

The Mira line was introduced in September of 2007 at the company's Experience PRS open house at its manufacturing facility in Stevensville, Maryland. At that time, PRS Director of R&D and Private Stock Joe Knaggs said, “The Mira is a good example of a great concerted effort between peers in marketing, R&D and production who have been working together for a long time. Our goal was to make a guitar that feels, looks and sounds different but keeps the quality, playability and unique PRS attributes. We wanted the Mira to have the feel of a flat top electric yet have the unique beauty of a carved guitar.”

“The Mira is a new direction for PRS – flat body, pick guard, new pickups, 24 fret, retro looking vintage style guitar,” said Paul Reed Smith at the unveiling, “but first and foremost, it is a wonderful sounding Maryland-built instrument.”

Mira, by the way, is Latin for "wonderful."
