Beaufort Music Festival 2008

As much as we love big music venues and big name artists, we have a special affection for the smaller music events that take place around the world like the Beaufort Music Festival 2008 (May 9-10, 2008) that offer musicians on local music circuits a chance to perform their work for discriminating music lovers in smaller towns. The seaside resort town of Beaufort, North Carolina, is probably best known as the hometown of the notorious pirate of the 1700s, Edward "Blackbeard" Teach. But, for the locals, Beaufort has gained considerable regional acclaim for its annual music festival that has been staged each year along the waterfront since 1988.

This year's festival by the sea will include headliner, Tim Krekel. Tim's songs have been recorded by Ricky Nelson, Jerry Reed, Lonnie Mack, Canned Heat, Kim Ritchey, Deana Carter, and Kathy Mattea. Country artist, Crystal Gayle, latched on to a number one hit with Tim's "Turning Away," and Patty Loveless nailed down a number one hit with a song Krekel co-wrote called "You Can Feel Bad" for which Tim won a BMI Country Award in 1997.

Danielle Procter, Festival Coordinator, told us, "We're really excited to have Tim Krekel and the other performers here in Beaufort for our 20th annual festival. Beaufort is a charming seaside town that's got quite a bit of history, culture and a love of the arts. We're very pleased to have someone like Tim ,who's an exceptional musician and songwriter, and the other musicians share this musical weekend with us."

Other artists at the waterfront gig will be Yo Mama's Big Fat Booty Band, the New Familiars, the Unknown Tongues, Children of the Horn, My Three Kilts and others who will entertain the crowds while they hang out and chow down on North Carolina cuisine.

So, forget the typical ticket strategies and long lines that we've all experienced at huge music venues and head to your local area festivals to support the local bands, good causes, as well as to relax with your families and enjoy good live music, that's up close and personal.
