My Guitar: An Instructional CD for Young Beginners

by Staff.

My Guitar

My Guitar from eMedia

Professional guitarists make playing the guitar look easy. It isn't. In fact, not only is not easy, the first time tender finger flesh presses down on those thin metal wires euphemistically called strings, it can be downright painful. This is hurdle enough for adults, but what about young children who might like to trade their videogame guitar controller for the real thing? While it doesn't promise to make the process painless, the new My Guitar instructional CD from eMedia, offers to make it an otherwise pleasant experience for youngsters ages six and up.

My Guitar starts with the basics, such as how to hold and tune the instrument, and advances through strumming chords, reading tablature and playing songs. Children are taken through the lessons, written by professional guitar instructor Kevin Garry, Ph.D., by Gary the Guitar, an animated character that most young players should find engaging. The program also includes a number of games designed to help the student with such tasks as memorizing specific chords while keeping them entertained.

Other helpful features include: an animated fretboard that shows where to put fingers for playing notes and chords; MIDI tracks that speed up or slow down the music; song looping to repeat sections of songs, which makes practicing difficult passages easier; an automatic tuner; metronome; chord dictionary; and digital recorder. My Guitar offers over 50 lessons and teaches more than 20 popular songs.

My Guitar will be available at computer and retail music stores in January, 2008, with an estimated retail price of $29.95. More information is available at www.emedia.com.
