Modern Guitars has three copies of 14-time Grammy Award winning producer Phil Ramone’s new book, Making Records: The Scenes Behind the Music, to giveaway to readers on December 15, 2007. Ramone has produced Frank Sinatra, B.B. King, Paul McCartney; Sting; Madonna; Bob Dylan; Bono, Barbara Streisand; Luciano Pavarotti, Tony Bennett, Paul Simon, Billy Joel, Ray Charles, Elton John, Aretha Franklin and other major artists of our time.

Written with music historian and award winning author Charles L. Granata, Making Records: The Scenes Behind the Music invites us to sit in on recording sessions and share Phil Ramone’s experiences producing some of the most notable artists of the past 50 years.

Ramone has racked up a series of recording industry technology milestones including being the first to use:

- Solid-state console for recording and mastering (1966)
- Dolby four-track discrete sound in a motion picture linking the recording studio
with the film sound studio via satellite (A Star is Born, 1976)
- Dolby optical sound for a film (One Trick Pony, 1980)
- EDNet fiber-optic sytem to record artists at different locations in real time for Frank Sinatra’s Duets albums (1993-4)

From his earliest production work with John Coltrane, Stan Getz, and Count Basie to today’s music masters, Phil Ramone has firmly established his legacy in the annals of music history.
