ICMP Opening

Opening of the new ICMP facility. L-R: Paul Kirkham (ICMP Director/Owner), Martin Taylor MBE, Councillor Harshadbhai Patel (The Mayor of Brent), Sarah Teather (MP for Brent East), Hugh Burns (George Michael, Gerry Rafferty, Wham, and others) and Pete Whittard (MD).

The Institute of Contemporary Music Performance, Europe’s finest school of modern music for students of guitar, bass, drums and vocals officially opened the doors on its new premises this month. The Institute, whose graduates have been playing and performing at the highest levels of the music industry for almost a quarter of a century, recently relocated to fantastic new facilities in north-west London and the official Opening Ceremony held on November 12th was a chance to celebrate the arrival of such a prestigious school to its new home.

Following a short and professional performance by current degree students, the Rt.Hon. Sarah Teather, MP for Brent East, spoke glowingly of her pride that the Institute should choose the borough of Brent as its new home. She went on to congratulate the school on its commitment to providing students with access to world class teaching and training in state of the art facilities. This was followed by a short and entertaining speech and the official opening of the new facility by the Mayor of Brent, Councillor Harshadbhai Patel. Having lauded the achievements and successes of the Institute and eloquently and passionately extolled the virtues of music as a force for good in society, the Mayor proceeded to take up a pair of drum sticks and have a go himself!

In addition to Ms. Teather and the Mayor, the event was attended by many friends and partners of the Institute including, as guest of honour, the jazz virtuoso Martin Taylor, fusion guitarist, and classical sitarist Amit Chatterjee and studio legend Hugh Burns.

The event was a resounding success with the Institute’s Managing Director, Pete Whittard, commenting: “The Institute has always enjoyed a worldwide reputation for excellence and attracts students and musicians from all over the world. In the last 12 months we have invested over £300,000 in these fantastic new facilities and our students can now benefit from state of the art performing, practice and teaching space, iMac music technology and keyboard suites, digital recording studio and much more, all equipped with the latest industry standard gear. And as if this weren’t enough, we have recently launched a new fully-funded Diploma course for students aged under 19 years. This course, the first of its kind in London and delivered in partnership with the College of North West London, means that access the world class teaching and facilities at the Institute is now open to everyone with a passion for music!”

The Institute will hold an Open Day on Saturday November the 19th at 1.00 p.m. at its new premises at 1a, Dyne Road, Kilburn NW6 7XG so why not go along and take a look for yourself at this amazing place – and maybe book yourself a place on a course that could just change your life!
