More than 700 guitar enthusiasts made the trek to Stevensville, Maryland, over September 29-30 for Paul Reed Smith Guitars' first Experience PRS open house where the Mira, PRS’ newest guitar model, was unveiled. Paul Reed Smith and Michael Ault from the PRS Band unofficially unveiled the new PRS model on stage during an open house performance Friday night at the PRS manufacturing facility in Stevensville.

Skillet guitarist Ben Kasica said, “I've been using the Mira the last week of shows. I love it. It plays amazing, and the sound is perfect for the songs I use it on. It has that retro, classic rock vibe with the playability of a modern PRS guitar.”

Latin for “wonderful,” Mira is also the name of an unusually fast moving star located approximately 350 light years from earth. The PRS Mira model is a 24-fret guitar that features a 25” scale length, 10” radius, regular or wide-thin neck shape, locking tuning pegs, PRS non-adjustable stoptail, Abalone moons inlays, optional bird inlays, East Indian rosewood fingerboard, a solid mahogany body and neck, Mira treble and bass pickups, volume, tone, 3-way blade switch and mini toggle coil tap. The Mira model is offered in range of colors including Vintage Cherry, Orange, Vintage Mahogany, Black, Wild Mint, Lilac, Seafoam Green, Powder Blue and Sandstorm.

PRS Director of R&D and Private Stock Joe Knaggs said, “The Mira is a good example of a great concerted effort between peers in marketing, R&D and production who have been working together for a long time. Our goal was to make a guitar that feels, looks and sounds different but keeps the quality, playability and unique PRS attributes. We wanted the Mira to have the feel of a flat top electric yet have the unique beauty of a carved guitar.”

Peter Wolf, PRS Director of Sales and Marketing added, “To me, the Mira is giving PRS a greater opportunity to appeal to a younger audience, Indie Bands and players who are looking for different things in a guitar. It has a strong vintage and retro vibe to it, and the Mira model has already been creating quite a bit of excitement within our work force and amongst the few Artists we have been able to show it to.”

“The Mira is a new direction for PRS – flat body, pick guard, new pickups, 24 fret, retro looking vintage style guitar,” said Paul Reed Smith, “but first and foremost, it is a wonderful sounding Maryland-built instrument.”
