The National Folk Festival has celebrated the roots and variety of American folk culture through music, dance, traditional crafts, storytelling and food since 1934, but this year's event on October 12-14 in Richmond, Virginia, offers a wide sampling of folk-based entertainment from around the world. In addition to Americana genres such as Western Swing and bluegrass, festival goers can experience a variety of international folk entertainment such as Irish song and music, a Philipino gong orchestra, Guatemalan marimba, Persian santur, Chinese music, Ethiopian Christian liturgical music and much more.

Featured artists at the free, three-day event include Cindy Cashdollar, Junk Yard Band, Big Country Bluegrass, Hot Club of Cowtown, The Holmes Brothers, Mike Seeger and Blue Ridge Masters Wayne Henderson and Jeff Little. Presented by Richmond Region 2007, the National Folk Festival features more than 30 artists/groups on seven stages with continuous music and dance performances, along with a Virginia Folklife demonstration area, children's activities, a folk arts marketplace, regional and ethnic foods and more.
