Paul McCartney Signs Guitar Sculpture for London GuitarTown

by Staff.

Sir Paul McCartney visited the Gibson GuitarTown London exhibition today to autograph a 10-foot hand-painted fiberglass Les Paul sculpture in support of the GuitarTown charity effort. The sculpture, called "And The Crowd Goes Wild," was designed and painted with acrylics by visual artist and cartoonist Rosie Brooks. "I just fancied playing with a big guitar! I think this one will hopefully catch the imagination of the public and whoever is going to buy it at the auction and raise money for The Prince's Trust, Teenage Cancer Trust and Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy, which are all great charities," McCartney said. Brooks, who was also present at the signing, added, "It's a complete honour. It's brilliant. I was really touched when I found out he had chosen my design."

The 10-foot sculpture signed by McCartney and 60 others have been on public display around More London, South Bank, SE1 by City Hall for the past ten weeks and officially come down today. They, along with regular-sized Gibson SG guitars bearing celebrity autographs, are part of a charity effort sponsored by Gibson Guitar designed to raise money for for The Prince’s Trust, Teenage Cancer Trust and Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy, to which end the sculptures and SGs will be sold at an auction event in Central London later this year.

Sir Paul McCartney, who has been busy promoting his latest studio album, Memory Almost Full, recently announced a performance date at London's Rounhouse as part of the BBC Electric Proms concerts. Tickets to the performance sold out in record time.
