September 7, 2007The Mercury Seed Blossoms in National TV ContestPress release Just as THE MERCURY SEED prepares to quench America’s thirst for melodic, well-written guitar-fueled rock with its latest CD, the band unexpectedly has landed in millions of homes in a nationally televised competition. The Connecticut-grown New York rockers reached the semifinals this week in “Living Room … LIVE’ – Battle of the Bands, the summerlong contest in which CBS Early Show viewers vote online for their favorite homemade music video submitted by thousands of independent bands across the country. Producers estimated that the chances of THE MERCURY SEED’s living room performance video of “Liferaft” -- off their new CD, THROWING ROCKS AT THE SUN – simply qualifying to be shown this week on The Early Show for viewer voting eligibility were one-in-5,000. Watch the “Liferaft” video here: www.cbsnews.com/stories/2007/03/13/earlyshow/main2563124.shtml “I think they have a great sound,” said Early Show producer Tammy Caputo. “They’re really polished.” Scoring high marks in national contests has become a regular occurrence for THE MERCURY SEED. In August, the band was a national semifinalist – and a New York area finalist – in the “Sauza Tequila 100% Live All Summer” challenge. THE MERCURY SEED is coming off a breakthrough year in which the band was selected by XM Radio to open for Bon Jovi before 15,000 fans, made the finals in the annual Emergenza Music Festival, and appeared at Toronto’s NXNE (North By Northeast) Festival. THE MERCURY SEED — Volker (vocals), John Jackson (guitar), Joe Nemcheck (guitars), Gary D’Andrea (bass) and Rob Langer (drums) — has finely honed their classic sound with the most emotionally charged and memorable songs of their career. The band’s well-amped approach to soaring guitars, catchy hooks and rock ‘n ‘ roll swagger delivers pure aural pleasure on THROWING ROCKS AT THE SUN. All Music Guide, in a 4-star review, raved: “The sound is magnificent, beautifully heightening the atmospheres while capturing every instrument and note sung to its best advantage. Superb!” THE MERCURY SEED has discovered intriguing new ways to update its sound, adding textures and dynamics to songs which reveal a determination to prevail against all obstacles and make music with no expiration date. College Radio is quickly responding, as the album has been rapidly gaining adds at stations throughout the Northeast. The collection showcases a band that is dynamic, raw, impactful and, above all, real. As Rolling Stone Contributing Editor Anthony DeCurtis said: “People talk these days about a rock and roll revival, but for The Mercury Seed, the music was not only never dead, it was always fiercely alive. These guys are true believers who play it and mean it from the depths of their souls.” Plant “The Seed” in your musical consciousness. THROWING ROCKS AT THE SUN is available NOW at CD Baby (www.cdbaby.com/mercuryseed2), iTunes and most major download destinations.
