September 6, 2007Nat King Cole Reissue Series to be Launched by Collectors' ChoicePress release Collectors' Choice is proud to have been selected by Nat's daughter Carole and the Nat Cole Estate to release essentially Nat's entire Capitol album output on CD, some of which will be appearing on Compact Disc for the first time in the U.S. and others which will be appearing in that format for the first time anywhere. Like the man himself, these essential collections transcend music trends and define what is the ultimate in musicianship and unparalleled taste. Faced with such a weighty responsibility (some of these titles have never come out on CD, many more never here in America), Collectors' Choice set out to release these wonderful records in a fashion that would bring value to the consumer, and yet remain true to their towering artistic integrity. The label decided to release the albums in two waves. The first wave will consist of nine twofers; these are albums whose common theme or arranger made them perfect matches for each other. The second wave, coming early in 2008, will consist of single albums augmented by non-LP bonus tracks that either hail from the same session or time period as the album in question, or fit the album's theme. Jim Ritz, who put together our album reissue campaigns for Dean Martin and Sammy Davis, Jr., crafted the A&R for these releases, and penned some really great liner notes that take the viewpoint of both a fan and a collector. When Nat King Cole signed with Capitol Records in 1943 at the age of 24, he had already been recording for over six years as the leader of The King Cole Trio, releasing records mostly in Decca's 'Race' series that were marketed mainly to the black community. With Capitol, Nat and the trio went mainstream and their very first session for the label on November 30, 1943 produced the classic, "Straighten Up And Fly Right" which became a national top 10 hit and paved the way for one of the most illustrious careers in record history. For the next 20+ years, Nat, first as the leader of the critically acclaimed Trio and then romantic balladeer and pop icon supreme left a musical legacy surpassed by very few. After recording literally hundreds of single releases, Nat's popularity surged even higher with the advent of the LP format and he made some of his greatest recordings for release on the dozens of masterful albums he recorded for the label. He truly was the 'King' of the Capitol Tower. NAT KING COLE: Ramblin' Rose/Dear Lonely Hearts (CCM08202) NAT KING COLE: The Touch of Your Lips/I Don't Want to Be Hurt Anymore (CCM08212) NAT KING COLE: Cole Español/More Cole Español (CCM08222) NAT KING COLE: Welcome to the Club/Tell Me All about Yourself (CCM08232) NAT KING COLE: Just One of Those Things/Let's Face the Music (CCM08242) NAT KING COLE: Love Is the Thing/Where Did Everyone Go? (CCM0825) NAT KING COLE: Penthouse Serenade/The Piano Style of Nat King Cole (CCM08262) NAT KING COLE: Nat King Cole Sings for Two in Love/Ballads of the Day (CCM08272) NAT KING COLE: Songs from St. Louis Blues/Looking Back (CCM08282) A NOTE FROM THE NAT COLE ESTATE: "I was thrilled when Gordon Anderson of Collectors' Choice expressed interest in reissuing dad's catalog on compact disc in the way these recordings were originally released on vinyl. This is something we have always wanted to do because it honors each album in ways that only a straight reissue can. For fans familiar with the original LPs, this is a particular treasure because each disc includes images of the original album cover art as well as the original liner notes. Established and new Nat King Cole audiophiles will have the added benefit of reading the colorful commentary by James Ritz who captures the fascinating backstory of Nat's creative process in the studio and explores specific collaborations, production issues and song choices that made each recording project unique. In a word, the entire Cole Family considers this collection to be... priceless."
