SXSW 2008 Open For Business

Press release
Source: SXSW

The twenty-second South By Southwest (SXSW) Music and Media Conference and Festival is now open for business. You may register, make a hotel request, and apply for a music festival showcase slot. SXSW Music takes place March 12 - 16, 2008 in Austin, Texas. A keynote address anchors four days of panels, interviews, workshops, peer meetings and the trade show exhibition at the Austin Convention Center. Daytime events flow into the world-renowned music festival, which showcases over 1000 acts on stages throughout downtown Austin.

Registration for SXSW Music allows you access to all daytime events at the Austin Convention Center, entry into official SXSW day parties, and priority access into all SXSW nighttime showcases. In addition, registration will allow you to access the 2008 Online Registrants Directory, a great tool to aid in planning your SXSW meetings. New for the 2008 conference are the SXSW Quickies - informal forums in which registrants will have a series of short discussions in small groups led by music professionals from all corners of the business. Designed to give increased access to a number of our speakers, the Quickies will run every morning from Wednesday through Saturday, and will offer a fresh opportunity to learn and share experience. Click on http://sxsw.com to learn more and to register to attend.

SXSW is now accepting showcase applications for music acts to perform at the 2008 music festival. This year you have a choice of two ways to apply - both online to save you the trek to the post office. Submit your online application from our website at:

http://2008.sxsw.com/music/festival/apply_to_showcase/

or apply through Sonicbids (www.sonicbids.com/clients/sxsw/sxsw_landing.htm). The deadlines are October 26, 2007 for international artists and November 9, 2007 for artists in the USA. The fees are $20 for early submissions and $30 for applications submitted after October 5, 2007.

The first-ever DVD compilation from the South By Southwest Music Festival will be in stores on August 21. SXSW Live 2007 includes a mix of cutting edge and established artists, including The Bravery, Aqualung, Peter Bjorn & John, Razorlight, Polyphonic Spree, Rachel Fuller with Pete Townshend, and Rickie Lee Jones. During SXSW 2007, Blaze TV, a Shout! Factory company, custom-built two clubs where performances were captured in multi-camera HD with 5.1 surround sound. The Lone Star Lounge had a traditional Texas feel, while The Bat Bar was designed as more of a modern music club. Both clubs were built from the ground up inside the Austin Convention Center. This unique musical experience was broadcast by DIRECTV as a groundbreaking exclusive three day 24 hour live concert event. The best of these performances are included on SXSW Live 2007, along with exclusive artist interviews and backstage footage.
