Mike Rutherford, lead guitarist and co-founder of multi-platinum selling British band Genesis, dropped by the Gibson Guitar offices in London to sign his 10-foot Gibson Les Paul sculpture for London GuitarTown. The guitar sculpture, titled The Tree of Knowledge, was designed and hand-painted by London-based visual artist Nathlyn Baptiste and will go on public display around More London, SE1 by Tower Bridge from the end of June for ten weeks..

Gibson Guitartown London is a charity inspired art display in association with well known British musicians such as Paul Weller, Noel Gallagher, Ronnie Wood, Ozzy Osbourne, James Blunt, Rod Stewart, Stereophonics, Roxy Music, Corinne Bailey Rae, Brian May, Razorlight, Kaiser Chiefs, The View, and Robert Plant, who work alongside visual artists to create their own individually designed 10-foot Gibson Les Paul.

An additional 30 regular-sized and hand-painted Gibson SG guitars will be displayed at The O2. Following the public display, these guitars will also be auctioned off to raise money for The Prince’s Trust, Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy and Teenage Cancer Trust.

Rutherford commented, “Gibson Guitartown London will provide London with a unique public exhibition of oversized hand-painted guitars. I wish I could take one out on the road with me!"

“It is a tremendous pleasure being the first female artist asked to contribute to Gibson Guitartown London,” said Nathlyn Baptiste, “Art is my way of interpreting my perspective of memories through colours that cloud my sub-consciousness and this project combines art, music and charity.”
