May 15, 2007Live Earth Adds Istanbul, Turkey, to List of Concert HostsPress release Organizers today announced that the City of Istanbul will host an official Live Earth concert event on July 7, 2007. Live Earth is the 24-hour, 7-continent concert series to combat global warming. Istanbul joins London , New York , Sydney , Shanghai , Tokyo , Johannesburg , Rio de Janeiro and Hamburg as official Live Earth host cities. Live Earth Istanbul will be broadcasted on local television and as part of a global feed to as many as 120 television channels worldwide. Live Earth Istanbul will feature both international and local Turkish acts on 7/7/07. Additional concert details will be announced at a later date. “Live Earth is thrilled to be adding a new leg of the Live Earth concert series in Istanbul ,” said Wall. “The goal of Live Earth is to engage a worldwide audience to take action against the climate crisis, and this concert in Istanbul will help to ensure that a truly global audience is reached.” Live Earth marks the beginning of a multi-year campaign led by the Alliance for Climate Protection and other international non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to move individuals, corporations and governments to take action to solve global warming. Former Vice President of the United States Al Gore is the Chair of the Alliance for Climate Protection and Partner of Live Earth.
Live Earth Istanbul will be organized locally by Purple Concerts, which was founded by Marcel Avram, Alan Cattanach and Cengizhan Yeldan to promote local and international concerts and shows in Turkey . Exclusive online media partner MSN is helping Live Earth reach people in every corner of the globe. Live Earth concerts will be streamed on 7/7/07 at LiveEarth.TR.MSN.com. MSN’s 39 localized web portals worldwide attract 465 million monthly users. Smart has joined Live Earth as an Official Partner. Its claim “Open your mind” summarizes smart’s approach to building cars, and it’s this thinking that has resulted in arguably the most ecologically-sound and environmentally-relevant car of our time: the smart fortwo. Live Earth will implement new “green event” guidelines at each concert venue that will address the major areas of impact of live events, including recycling, food and beverages, packaging, transportation, energy, water usage, and the event site itself. From power generation at the concerts to garbage generated by concert goers, Live Earth will seek to “design out” waste and bestow an eco-friendly legacy on the live events industry. Live Earth is being produced globally by Control Room, of which Kevin Wall is the CEO. Control Room has produced and distributed more than 60 concerts since its founding in 2005 featuring Beyoncé, Madonna, Green Day and the Rolling Stones, among others.
