PRS Guitars Brings “Laps For Life” to Summit Point Raceway

Press release
Source: PRS Guitars

Racers, drifters, vendors and thousands of spectators will descend upon Summit Point Raceway to experience the 6th Annual Hyperfest, Saturday, June 23, 2007. Located near Harpers Ferry , WV , the raceway will once again be transformed into an auto amusement park for a fun-filled day of non-stop track action. This marks the third year that Paul Reed Smith Guitars has sponsored the festival and added a unique guitar twist to racing vendor alley.

PRS will be displaying guitars along side a limited edition Ron Fellows Signature Corvette and continuing their partnership with Johns Hopkins Sidney Kimmel Cancer Center . In years past, PRS has raffled a guitar at the event, with the proceeds benefiting the cancer center. NASA Racing and US Drift have also donated proceeds from pre-event ride along opportunities. New for 2007, PRS Guitars and the NASA Racing Autobahn Group (944 Cup, BMW SpecE30, Sports Racers) have joined together creating a unique way to raise funds and awareness for the center – “Laps For Life”.

Bev Fowler of PRS Guitars, who has been involved with the PRS/Hyperfest partnership for three years stated “’Laps For Life’ is a unique, challenging and fun way to raise money for Johns Hopkins. We’re pleased to have the help of NASA Racing and the Autobahn Group as PRS continues their efforts in supporting cancer research at the Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center .”

“Laps For Life” works similarly to other pledge-based programs. Drivers in the Autobahn Group will solicit pledges based on the completion of a number of laps. The Saturday sprint race is typically comprised of 9 to 13 laps. The Autobahn Group is one of the largest at the road racing event, with more than 60 cars on track at once. General contributions will also be accepted. For more information on making a pledge or contribution, please inquire via: LapsForLife@gmail.com.

Dave Derecola, National Director of the 944 Cup, enthusiastically joined the fund raising efforts early on. "Both Johns Hopkins and PRS Guitars have long been associated with the best in what they do. The 944 Cup is honored to partner with these organizations for such a worthy cause…the race to find effective treatments for cancer. We hope the rest of the racing community will join us in this noble fight,” said Derecola.
