Luthier Helps Fellow Guitar Builder through eBay Auction

On April 19, 2007, what's been described as a fireball tore through the Canby, Oregon, residence of luthier Bill Chapin (Chapin Guitars) destroying the structure and leaving the Chapin family without a home and the luthier without a workshop. A utility crew had drilled into a gas line causing fumes to seep into the residence. According to The Oregonian, local firefighters evacuated Chapin and his wife minutes before the explosion. A number of friends, guitar enthusiasts, and fellow luthiers have rallied to help the Chapin family rebuild their home and lives through donations and fund raising support such as the current eBay auction in which a portion of the procceds from the sale of a handbuilt custom guitar (photo) from builder Jason Z.
