Gibson Guitar, the world’s premiere musical instrument manufacturer and leader in music technology, is proud to announce that many of the UK’s greatest and best known musicians have already pledged their support and involvement with Gibson Guitartown London. Gibson Guitartown London is a unique charity inspired campaign bringing together the power of music with art to raise money for three chosen charities; The Princes Trust, Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy and Teenage Cancer Trust.

Music legends such as Paul Weller, Slash, Ronnie Wood, Rod Stewart, Noel Gallagher, Mark Knopfler, Roxy Music, New Order, Bruce Dickinson, Brian May, Gary Moore, Gorillaz, Dirty Pretty Things, The Lost Prophets, James Dean Bradfield, Ocean Colour Scene, Graham Coxon, The Kooks, The Magic Numbers, Ozzy Osbourne, Paul Rodgers, Suggs, KT Tunstall, Razorlight, Hard-Fi, Corinne Bailey Rae, Depeche Mode, James Morrision, Motorhead, Sir Cliff Richard and James Blunt are already confirmed.

Thirty 10-foot free standing fiberglass Gibson Les Paul guitars and 30 regular sized Gibson SG’s are currently being creatively designed and hand painted by visual artists ranging from some of the UK’s leading and established artists such as Sir Peter Blake, Gerald Scarfe and Andrew Logan to competition winners. Each guitar will be signed by the associated musician to authenticate and endorse their own individual guitar.

The thirty 10-foot Gibson Les Paul guitars will be publicly displayed around More London (by Tower Bridge, SE1) from late June 2007 for ten weeks. Meanwhile, the regular sized hand painted Gibson SG’s will be on public display at The O2 in Greenwich, only a short tube or boat ride from the More London display. Following the exhibition all the guitars will be auctioned off at an event in September with all the proceeds being split equally between the three associated charities.

This free exhibition of creatively painted guitars will appeal to all age groups and music enthusiasts and will contribute to maintaining London’s credentials as one of the world’s greatest capital cities.

"Gibson Guitar Town London is an exciting charity project involving some of the biggest names in British music and just what London needs to keep this town rocking.“ —Harvey Goldsmith CBE

Gibson GuitarTown London will be a momentous and unique public exhibition, raising money for three fantastic charities with the support of many of Britain’s top musical names. This is our gift to the people of London.” —Henry Juszkiewicz, Chairman and CEO of Gibson Guitar

“The O2 is delighted to be involved with the Gibson Guitar town London project. As a venue dedicated to entertainment with music at its heart and the guitar being central to music we think this is a perfect fit. The Gibson guitar town exhibit will give visitors to The O2 a real chance to experience something unique,” said Lesley Saville - Chief Marketing Officer of The O2

The other 30 regular-sized hand-painted Gibson SGs will be on display at The O2 formally The Millennium Dome.

Said Hewkin, ’My involvement with the Gibson Guitartown was one close to my heart with the charities it represents. I was delighted to be selected and very pleased that Brian May liked my design. I first used feathers in a painting I did to represent Rio Carnival, to project movement and music - it was therefore appropriate that I designed ‘The Ultimate Air Guitar’. My interest in music has always been influential and I have been fortunate in knowing many well-known musicians (some of whom are personal collectors of mine).’’
