Warren Haynes Presents The Benefit Concert, Volume 1

Evil Teen Records and Warren Haynes are proud to announce the reissue of The Benefit Concert Vol. 1, in stores now. The recording was first released November 28, 2000 and was recorded live December 22, 1999, at Warren Haynes' 11th Annual Christmas Jam in Asheville, NC, at the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium.

Warren Haynes began this great annual tradition 18 years ago at a small club in Asheville. The club, 45 Cherry Street, which had a capacity of 100 people, no longer exists, but the Christmas Jam has become an annual event not to be missed. The jam now takes place at the Asheville Civic Center which holds 7200 people. Regardless of the line up the event has sold out every year. The 2006 Christmas Jam sold out in 20 minutes.

“I created the event because local musicians were home around Christmas to jam together. Instead of being locked away in some rehearsal room, I thought it would be fun to make a public event out of the jam session and since it was holiday time I decided to donate all profits to charity,” Haynes explains.

Initially, the charities varied from Vietnam Veterans, AIDS charities, and homeless relief groups among others. Haynes settled on Habitat for Humanity nine years ago and has since raised $600,000.

Christmas Jam performers have included: The Allman Brothers Band, Alvin Youngblood Heart, Blues Traveler, Bob Weir, Derek Trucks Band, DJ Logic, Electric Hot Tuna, Galactic, John Hiatt & The Goners, Bill Kreutzmann, Ray LaMontagne, Living Colour, Branford Marsalis, Dave Matthews, John Medeski, moe., The Neville Brothers, New Orleans Social Club featuring Henry Butler, Ivan Neville, Leo Nocentelli, George Porter Jr and Raymond Webber, North Mississippi All-Stars, Phil Lesh and Friends, Phish's Trey Anastasio & Mike Gordon, Robert Randolph and The Family Band, Sam Bush, John Scofield, Sonny Landreth, Dr. Ralph Stanley, String Cheese Incident's Michael Kang, Marty Stuart and his Fabulous Superlatives, Taj Mahal Trio, Paterson Hood & Jason Isbell from The Drive By Truckers, and Widespread Panic's John Bell, Dave Schools & Todd Nance.

Like each of the benefits, the 1999 concert saw Warren Haynes put together a stellar lineup of musicians that featured Gov't Mule, Edwin McCain, Susan Tedeschi, Derek Trucks Band. Warren also welcomed very special guests: Mike Barnes, Audley Freed (Black Crowes), Kevn Kinney (Drivin' n' Cryin'), Col. Bruce Hampton, Jimmy Herring, Larry McCray, Little Milton, Johnny Neel and Paul Riddle (Marshall Tucker Band).

The Benefit Concert Vol. 1 spans two discs and offers more than two hours of incredible music. A complete track list is below.

All proceeds from the Christmas Jam and CD sales will benefit Habitat For Humanity, an international non-profit organization dedicated to building affordable housing in partnership with those in need of adequate shelter.
