New CD from Jazz Guitarist Steve Khan to be Released June 5

Guitarist Steve Khan, with over 20 CDs as a leader and co-leader to his credit, is widely regarded as a pioneer of the '70s jazz-fusion movement, having recorded a series of critically acclaimed records for the Columbia label. Throughout the '80s, he blazed new trails with his group Eyewitness. After spending several years as co-leader of the Grammy-awarded group, Caribbean Jazz Project, Khan returned to his solo career in 2005 with his first Tone Center release, The Green Field.

Khan's new CD, Borrowed Time, picks up right where The Green Field left off. Once again, Khan is joined by the familiar names of John Patitucci, Jack DeJohnette, and Manolo Badrena exploring compositions by Thelonious Monk, Ornette Coleman, McCoy Tyner, and a moving version of "You're My Girl" which was written by Steve's father, the late Sammy Cahn. There are also two Khan originals, including the trippy "El Faquir," a 13-minute psychedelic journey, where the core group is joined by Bob Mintzer (bass clarinet), Badal Roy (tabla), and Latin percussionists Ralph Irizarry andRoberto Quintero.

On three other tracks ("Face Value" and "Have You Met Miss Jones"), Steve is featured on acoustic guitar and joined by some old friends, Randy Brecker (flügelhorn), and Rob Mounsey (keys) alongside New York Salsa legends: Rúben Rodríguez (bass); Marc Quiñones (timbal) and Bobby Allende (conga). "Luna y Arena" also features vocalist Gabriela Anders. It is a beautiful arrangement of the obscure Alec Wilder standard "Moon and Sand" which now becomes "Luna y Arena" thanks to Rafael Greco's Spanish interpretation of the exceptionally poetic and sad lyrics in English.

The new record once again (for the first time since Khan's 1997 CD Got My Mental) features spectacular cover art from the late Jean-Michel Folon, , a signature look for at least 13 of Steve's previous releases.
