Music Nation Ramps Up Online Music Video Competition

Music Nation (www.MusicNation.com), the innovative multi-genre online video music competition, announced today that its site has undergone significant upgrades as the online video music competition gets ready for the January 29th contest kick-off. Reflective of comments from the Music Nation community, the updated design is focused on developing the site’s discovery aspects and now includes an “In Your Area” search function and page, allowing users and fellow bands to locate acts regionally, as well as a new player on the homepage and each genre landing page, which streams content to create a more programmed and cinematic experience.  The site has received submissions beyond their expectations across the rock, pop and urban genres since the site went live in beta on November 16th. Coming out of the beta phase, Music Nation’s upgrades are also in preparation for the amount of traffic that the site expects to generate throughout the online competition.

The Music Nation competition gives three artists (one each in the rock, pop and urban genres) the chance to win a global recording contract with Epic Records. Additionally, each of the winners will be featured on STRIPPED, Clear Channel Radio’s exclusive in-studio performance series. Bands can visit www.MusicNation.com to upload videos and create an artist page (artists must be at least 14 to enter, those under 18 need parental consent where required).  Once the video is uploaded, contestants can take their submission and post the video around the Web (on fan sites, MySpace, YouTube, etc.), driving more fans to vote, directly from that particular site.  Additionally, the public can now register with the Music Nation, create a user profile page, and browse videos in preparation for voting to begin on January 29th.

Voting begins January 29, 2007 and the competition runs for 15 weeks.  Each week, two videos—one chosen by the public and one chosen by a panel of celebrity judges (TBA)—from each of the three genres will be voted into the quarterfinals.  Voting will reset weekly during the initial 12 weeks of competition, giving previously entered bands or artists a fresh chance to be voted into the quarterfinals and allowing new bands or artists to enter each week. Clear Channel Radio will also promote the competition and contestants on-air and online through local station websites across the country.

After 12 weeks, the quarterfinalist pool is narrowed to a semifinalist round, and again for the finals in week 15.

Entry is free until January 29th, after which a $25 fee will accompany submissions throughout the initial 12-week voting period.
