Gibson Original Announces Ricky Skaggs Distressed Master Model Mandolin

Gibson Original has announced the launch of the Ricky Skaggs Limited Edition Distressed Master Model mandolin. The result of over a year of close cooperation between Grammy nominated (Instrumentals by Ricky Skaggs and Kentucky Thunder has been nominated for Best Bluegrass Album) Ricky Skaggs and Gibson Original Acoustic Instruments, Ricky’s signature mandolin is closely based on his 1923 Lloyd Loar F-5.

The Ricky Skaggs Distressed Master Model features a beautiful Cremona Sunburst finish which gracefully accents the premium, red spruce top and maple back and sides. With a tap-tuned top for crisp chops and articulate lines, exquisite binding and headstock inlay, and a comfortable “speed neck” profile, it is an exact replica of Ricky’s F-5. The Ricky Skaggs mandolin is another example of the exquisite work and painstaking attention to detail that Gibson Original puts into every instrument.

“I’ve got several Lloyd Loars,” Ricky recently told Gibson. “They each sound different, yet really great. But for my latest album Instrumentals, I used my Skaggs Distressed F-5 model on every track.”

Each mandolin in this limited 30-instrument run comes with a certificate of authenticity, and is personally inspected by Ricky to insure it meets his rigorous standards for tone, playability, and appearance. The hardshell case for this stunning mandolin is protected by a custom-embroidered Small Dog cover, and the instrument comes with a Tone-Gard back isolator and a copy of Instrumentals.
