Press release
Source: PRS Guitars

Paul Reed Smith Guitars, Ltd. and Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center ’s 7th Annual Charity Golf Tournament will take place Sunday, October 22nd, and Monday, October 23rd, at Caves Valley and Hayfields Country Club in Baltimore , Maryland . This year’s tournament has many new offerings including an expanded concert and golf events at two premier courses. Caves Valley is a prestigious course consistently recognized as one of the finest private courses in the country, and Hayfields is host to this year’s Senior Player’s Championship.

PRS Guitars CFO Seth Henderson is pleased with the line-up of this year’s tournament and is grateful that PRS Guitars can help ease the lives of families affected by cancer. “This charity golf tournament has raised more than a million dollars since it started almost seven years ago. It feels really great to be a part of something that can make such a big difference in the lives of families faced with medical crisis.”

Michael Hibler, an assistant director at the Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center at Johns Hopkins, has been involved with the annual charity event ever since it began in 2000. "This is much more than just golf and guitars; it is about reaching out to the community and asking them to join us in supporting cancer patients and their families during their greatest time of need,” said Hibler. “PRS Guitars, the largest single supporter of the event, and our sponsors have recognized this for the past six years, and in doing so, they have created a leading annual tradition."

Many unique sponsorships are available, one of which involves a round of golf on Sunday, October 22nd, prior to the tournament at Caves Valley Golf Club in Lutherville , Maryland . This will give golfers the opportunity to warm up before the tournament or engage golfers that can’t make the tournament on Monday. The tournament’s premier sponsorship package, the “Brazilian™ Sponsor,” conveys four PRS SE model guitars, 20 concert tickets, a foursome at Caves Valley, a foursome at Hayfields, premier gifts from FootJoy® and Titleist®, a full-page ad in the tournament program and several other on-course sponsorships. The Recher Theater, located in Towson, Maryland, will host the PRS Guitars Night of Blues Legends on the evening of October 22nd. The musical lineup features Pat Travers, Chuck Brown, Dan Toler from the Allman Brothers, Matt Scannell and Keith Kane, Vertical Horizon, Tommy Lepson, the Paul Reed Smith Band and Erik Mongrain. Tickets are $50 individually or $250 for six, with all net proceeds benefiting the John Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center . For more information about purchasing tickets, please contact Michael Hibler at 410-614-4670 or visit http://www.prsguitars.com/tournament/sponsorship.html for details.

Jon Levinson, of Alex Coopers Auctioneers, Inc., will host a live auction between the first and second sets of the concert. Some of the items up for bid include a fine selection of exquisite and rare autographed PRS artist guitars, a Palm Beach golf getaway package and an oriental rug from Alex Cooper valued at more than $5,000.

On Monday, October 23rd, PRS Guitars and the Johns Hopkins Kimmel Cancer Center will host the traditional full-course charity golf tournament at Hayfields Country Club in Hunt Valley , Maryland . Hayfields is also host to this year’s Senior Player’s Championship; and this location is just one of the ways PRS and the Kimmel Caner Center have expanded this year’s tournament amenities. New course contests and a vast array of prizes and golf giveaways will also add to the personality and humanity of this year’s tournament.

The net proceeds of the tournament benefit the Living with Cancer Resource Program at Johns Hopkins, which assures that cancer patients and their families have access to the supportive care programs they need, all free of charge. In today’s world of shrinking healthcare funding, it is increasingly important for charities like this and others that benefit top health care providers like Johns Hopkins to reach out to their communities.
