John Page Guitars P-1

John Page Guitars P-1 model with gold pickguard

The “P-1” is the first entry into the market from long-time guitar builder and artist, John Page, co-founder of the Fender Guitar Custom Shop. The “P-1” represents his “root” instrument, the starting point from where all his future designs will flow. In its “stock” form, the P-1 has a Swamp Ash body with internal acoustic chambers, a five piece, laminated neck of Hard Rock Maple and Honduran Mahogany, and an Indian Rosewood fretboard. The peghead is overlayed with figured Maple and black veneers and adorned with John’s distinctive signature. The combination of the design, materials selected and construction techniques, make for an incredibly sweet, resonant, and acoustically vibrant electric guitar.

John called on long time friend and fellow guitar builder, John Suhr, for his pickup expertise, using Suhr’s SSV Humbucking pickup in the rhythm position, and his Broadcaster pickup in the lead, “Chunky Crunch” is added to the instrument. The pickguard is available either in plastic Bakelite or anodized aluminum, with the latter being the original design material. The guitar also features Sperzel non-locking tuners, a 6-saddle American bridge, master volume and tone controls, and a five-position switch allowing both Humbucking and single-coil splitting options. The guitar is also available with an interior form-fitting case by another long time friend, G&G Quality Case.

About John Page
With over twenty years as a guitar designer, builder and executive at Fender Guitars, John has had unparalleled experience in designing and building instruments for some of the world’s finest players and largest corporations. Although he has built guitars on and off since the late '70s, he has spent much of the last several years on other “adventures”. Since leaving the Fender Custom Shop in November of 1998, he has created the Fender Museum of Music and the Arts and founded their Kids Rock Free Educational Programs, as well as becoming a full-time “Functional Artist”. His art has been shown in galleries throughout the West Coast of the United States and sold to clients throughout the world. The “P-1”, the latest of his “Functional Art” pieces, will be hand-built by John in his studio/shop in Sunny Valley, Oregon. The guitars will be extremely limited, with John only building between 12 to 15 pieces per year. They will be made side-by-side with his other art, not in place of. For further information on the P-1, go to www.johnpageguitars.com or visit John’s art site at www.p-one-c.com.
