PRS Guitars to Break Ground on Multimillion Dollar Factory Expansion

Press release
Source: PRS Guitars

Paul Reed Smith Guitars, Ltd. will break ground on a multimillion dollar, 93,000+ square-foot factory expansion on September 5, 2006. The expansion is expected to take approximately 18 months to complete and will more than quadruple the size of the existing manufacturing and office space located in Stevensville, Maryland .

“We built our first factory in 1985. We moved to Kent Island in 1996. We seem to be expanding in ten year cycles. I never imagined we would need to quadruple the size of our facility so soon. This expansion is not just a result of good guitar products; it is the result of an excellent team at PRS, great support from our customers and artists as well as the state of Maryland and Queen Anne’s County,” said PRS Guitars President Jack Higginbotham.

“My administration has worked hard to ensure that Maryland businesses have the resources they need to stay and grow in all regions of the State,” said Governor Ehrlich. “PRS Guitars’ expansion is validation that our support of private sector growth is working. We are delighted that the company is expanding its Eastern Shore facility, and proud that PRS Guitars calls Maryland home. Now in music venues all over the world, more PRS guitars will showcase the talent and workmanship of Maryland workers.”

Upon completion, the PRS factory will be home to more than 82,000 square feet of manufacturing and warehouse space as well as 18,000 square feet of office space. The additional square footage will provide room for an expansive PRS museum that highlights the history, innovations and progress of the PRS guitar line. New zones of creativity are also planned that include more room for the research and development team to design, create and perfect new guitar models, a sound recording studio and additional photography/art studio space for the in-house creative team.
