August 3, 2006Guitarist Frank Gambale To Release Three CD CompilationsPress release A bona fide guitar hero, Frank Gambale has distinguished himself as a player of unparalled virtuosity over the past 20 years. From his earliest days with the Chick Corea Elektric Band in the mid '80s to his work with Vital Information, Billy Cobham, and as a leader in his own right, the Australian-born guitar slinger has set a new standard of excellence for his instrument with displays of dazzling technical facility in a wide variety of musical settings. Simply put, Gambale plays like no one else on the planet, earning accolades and awe-struck acclaim from critics and fans alike for his mind-boggling chops, sophisticated harmonic palette and penchant for uncommon melodicism. While each of Gambale's 10 recordings as a leader -- from his 1986 debut, Brave New Guitar, to his most recent outing, 2006's Natural High -- have cut a wide stylistic swath, the guitarist has compiled tracks that categorize his musical output into three neat compartments - Best of the Acoustic Side, Best of Jazz & Rock Fusion and Best of The Smooth Jazz Side. "My recording have always been all over the map," says Gambale. "This homogenizes them, and I think the result is pleasing and will give listeners a great overview. It's always interesting to me that people say, 'Hey, I didn't know you played acoustic guitar.' Yet on every album I've done there have always been some acoustic tunes." Wombat Records
