Eagle Rock to Release Acoustic: Live in Newport by the Pixies

Press release
Source: Kayos Productions, Inc.

Eagle Rock Entertainment, through its wholly-owned Eagle Vision imprint, announces the August 22, 2006, release of Live In Newport by arguably the most influential American band of the last 20 years -- the Pixies.

One of the most anticipated live sets of 2004, these acoustic arrangements of 22 Pixies classics are performed by the original lineup—Frank Black, Kim Deal, Joey Santiago and David Lovering—who reunited after a dozen years of self-imposed silence. During those intervening years, their sound had become a blueprint for Alternative Rock that would be followed and embellished in a variety of sub-genres from grunge to Britpop.

The hallowed stage at the Newport Folk Festival in Rhode Island has seen some history-making sets. Add this one to the list. It was a warm August Saturday at approximately 6:00 p.m. Nobody quite knew what to expect. A palpable sense of anticipation preceded their entrance. The result is 79 minutes of magic from a band with nothing to prove.

A bonus 21-minute mini-documentary of the Pixies rehearsing and deconstructing some of their favorite originals (including “Debaser” which didn’t make the final set list) is included. And, like previous films spotlighting the Newport Folk Festival, the experience was captured on film by director Michael B Borofsky, rather than with digital or high definition video.
