Great Guitar Month at the Smithsonian Jazz Cafe

Press release
Source: Smithsonian Jazz Cafe

May is Great Guitar Month at the Smithsonian Jazz Cafe, and we are proud to present award-winning guitarist, arranger, and composer Anthony Wilson on Friday, May 12th. Since winning the 1995 Thelonious Monk International Composers' Competition, Wilson has been the recipient of numerous accolades, including the coveted Downbeat 5-stars for his CD Adult Themes, and nominations for Grammy and Jazz Journalist Association awards. Recording and touring the world with Diana Krall since he joined her in 2001 for her Grammy-winning CD/DVD Live In Paris (Verve Records), Wilson has also been tapped for stage and studio work with such luminaries as Al Jarreau, Aaron Neville, Chris Botti, Madeleine Peyroux, as well as his father, world-renowned bandleader and composer Gerald Wilson. Joining Anthony on the date will be B-3 organist Greg Hatza and drummer Marty Morrison. Don't miss the Jazz Cafe debut of this very special artist!

Next Friday, May 19th, vibraphonist and drummer Chuck Redd presents a tribute to the late legendary guitarist Barney Kessel and celebrates the release of his CD "Remembering Barney" with whom he collaborated for many years during his tenure with the "Great Guitarists" Barney Kessel, Herb Ellis, and Charlie Byrd. Chuck's special guests for this evening will be guitar master Gene Bertoncini and pianist Robert Redd, both of whom are featured on Chuck's new CD. This is a "can't miss" show!

Wrapping up the month will be another CD release event with guitarists Steve Abshire and Vince Lewis. Stay tuned for more information!

Present your IMAX ticket stub from one of our Friday evening shows, and your admission to the Cafe that evening is FREE!

The Smithsonian Jazz Cafe is located in the Atrium of the National Museum of Natural History at 10th Street and Constitution Avenue, NW, Washington, DC. Music program is from 6-10pm.
