Caught in the Act: Al Kooper and the Funky Faculty

Music icon Al Kooper and The Funky Faculty played the Barns at Wolf Trap, Vienna, Virginia, to a hootin' and hollerin' audience of fans. Kooper was stationed behind his signature instrument, a vintage Hammond B3 organ with Leslies spinning. The legendary keyboardist, guitarist, singer, songwriter, producer, and author was stylin' in a black sequined paisley jacket, a silver mane of hair and darkened spectacles.

Very cool.

The Funky Faculty members are professors at the Berklee School of Music. All are consumate professionals and complemented Kooper's intelligent and catchy tunes with spot on grace and at times hard charging grit. Highlights from the Barn's show included tunes from Al's musical legacy including cuts from his latest CD, Black Coffee, Kooper's "Flute Thing", and great covers of Billy Boy Arnold's "I Wish You Would" and Booker T and The MG's "Green Onions" that was as raunchy and superb as it should be.
