February 13, 200615-year-old Wins International ContestAyşegül Koca of Turkey won first prize in the 10th Eduard Pamfil International Young Guitarists Festival held in Bucharest, Romania. Koca began her guitar studies at the age of eight and at twelve was admitted to the Bilkent Music Preparatory School's Department of Classical Guitar on a scholarship. In 2005, Ms. Koca won second prize in the 6th Jose Tomas International Guitar Competition held in AlmerÃa, Spain. One of the pieces she performed on the road to victory at the Pamfil International was "Scarlatti", which she composed. Story (requires free online subscription to the Turkish Daily News).
