The Joaquin Rodrigo International Guitar Competition Accepting Applications

The 3rd Edition of the JoaquĆ­n Rodrigo International Competition 2006 under the Honorary Presidency of T.R.H.Crown Prince Felipe and Princess Letizia of Spain will be held in Madrid, Spain, from May 24 to June 1, 2006, for the disciplines of guitar and voice. The next edition of the competition, which will be for violin and piano, will be held in 2008.

This Competition, founded in 2001, the centenary year of JoaquĆ­n Rodrigo's birth, seeks to preserve the study and knowledge of the maestro's works, to promote the Spanish repertoire of all periods, and foster the careers of young artists from around the world.

In addition to the several days of competition, on June 1, 2006, there will be a worldwide premiere of a previously unpublished work for guitar by JoaquĆ­n Rodrigo entitled "Tocatta" (1933), performed by the great guitarist Marcin Dylla (Poland), who was the winner of the first edition of the competition.

Venues
First stage : Real Academia de Bellas Artes, Sala Guitarte, Madrid
Semi-finals : Real Academia de Bellas Artes, Sala Guitarte, Madrid
Final stage : New Auditorium of the Reina Sofia Museum of Modern Art (with the participation of the Orquesta de la Comunidad de Madrid)

Prizes
First Prize : 12,000 €, recitals in Spain and abroad, and a DVD on a commercial label
Second Prize : 6,000 € and recitals in Spain
Third Prize : 3,000 €
Special Prize : 6,000 € to the best performer of JoaquĆ­n Rodrigo's works (common to both disciplines)

Eligibility
The competition is international and open to musicians from around the world.
