Classical Guitarist David Leisner to Perform Concert in NY and Tour in Arizona

Guitarist David Leisner will be performing a mixed program of Matiegka, J.S.Bach, Johann Kaspar Mertz, and Scott Joplin, in addition to one of his original compositions on Sunday, September 18th at 5:00 PM in Greenfield Hall at the Manhattan School of Music, 120 Claremont Ave., corner of 122nd St. Admission is free. He is also doing a concert tour through Arizona with series of masterclasses:

*9/22 at 7:30 PM, at Arizona State University in Tempe. Masterclass at ASU Sept. 23rd from 2:30 to 5:30 PM.

* September 25th, 4:00 PM at the Flagstaff Federated Community Church, 400 West Aspen, with a masterclass at the Coconino Community College on Saturday, September 24th at 4:00 PM.

* September 30th, 7:30 PM, in Tuscon at Holsclaw Hall in the Music Building on the University of Arizona campus. His masterclass will be held Saturday, October 1, 2005 at 9 AM to 12:00 PM at University of Arizona School of Music, 1017 N Olive (SE corner of Park & Speedway).

Earlier this summer, David travelled to Berlin to record the Alan Hovhaness Concerto for guitar and orchestra with the Berlin Radio Orchestra under conductor Gerard Schwartz. The final editing touches are currently being made for Self-Portrait, his latest solo album for the Azica label, which is a collection of his own compositions for solo guitar. David has just returned from another trip to Germany, where he performed and taught at the Iserlohn International Guitar Symposium. David's other recent recordings include Le Romantique (Azica), with works of Mertz and Schubert and Music of the Human Spirit (Azica), with works by 20th century composers, including Alberto Ginastera, Peter Sculthorpe, Richard Winslow, Phillip Glass, Lou Harrison, Francis Poulenc and Ned Rorem.
