Rock Induction Marks The 50th Anniversary Of "Rock Around The Clock"

Going #1 And The 80th Anniversary of Bill Haley's Birth

WHO: The five surviving members of the original lineup of The Comets: Franny Beecher, Johnny Grande, Joey Ambrosio, Marshall Lytle and Dick Richards and Mrs. Bill "Cuppy" Haley (married to Bill Haley 1952-1960) will be on hand as Hollywood's RockWalk inducts Bill Haley & The Comets. Bill Haley & The Comets' "Rock Around The Clock" became the first rock 'n' roll record to ever reach #1 on the Billboard charts 50 years ago this week. The record stayed at #1 for 8 consecutive weeks and went on to sell over 25 million copies world-wide. In the US the band had a staggering 24 entries on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart between 1952 and 1959 (including 14 Top Forty hits.) The band then evolved into one of the world's most popular touring attractions and became the first-ever rock 'n' roll band to tour the UK, Europe and Australia. Frontman Bill Haley died in 1981. The original Comets reformed in 1987 and have been performing concerts throughout the world ever since. July 6th would have been Bill Haley's 80th birthday.

WHAT: Bill Haley & The Comets will be inducted into HOLLYWOOD'S ROCKWALK, the only sidewalk gallery dedicated to honoring those artists who have made a significant impact and lasting contribution to the growth and evolution of Rock `n Roll. The handprints and signatures of Bill Haley & The Comets will reside right next to such equally accomplished musicians and innovators as Jimi Hendrix, Lou Reed, Johnny Cash, Aerosmith, B.B. King, Sonic Youth, Eric Clapton, James Brown, George Martin, Brian Wilson, Van Dyke Parks, Carlos Santana, Carl Perkins, John Lee Hooker, The Ramones, Bonnie Raitt, Holland-Dozier-Holland, Los Lobos, Motorhead and X among numerous others.

After the induction ceremony The Comets will give a FREE mini-performance for invited guests - including a special 50th Anniversary rendition of "Rock Around The Clock:
