The Silverstone Grand Prix Ball to Offer Star-studded Support for People with MND

The Motor Neurone Disease (MND) Association is one of only two charities set to benefit from the Silverstone Grand Prix Ball on Friday 8 July.

This glamorous, star-studded event will be held at Stowe House in Buckinghamshire (U.K.). The imposing venue is part of Stowe School, where actor David Niven studied as a child. David Niven died from MND in 1983.

Many F1 drivers and celebrities support this annual fundraising Ball, which to date has raised over £2 million for charity.

Sharon and Ozzy Osbourne, Eastenders cast members, Brian May and Jimmy Page are among those expected to attend this year.

All the money raised will be divided between the MND Association and the Action for Brazil's Children (ABC) Trust.

The Grand Prix Ball will feature a champagne reception, a gourmet dinner, an unlimited bar, an international DJ and a performance by Lionel Richie.

Anna Cooper, Event Organiser at the MND Association, said : "The Silverstone Grand Prix Ball is a very prestigious occasion and we are absolutely delighted that we have been selected as one of this year's beneficiaries."

MND is a rapidly progressive, terminal condition that affects around 5,000 people in the UK.

It attacks the motor neurones (nerve cells) that send messages from the brain to the muscles, leaving people unable to walk, talk or feed themselves. It does not usually affect the mind, leaving people perfectly aware of what is happening to them.

Life expectancy is only two to five years from symptom onset. Half will die within 14 months of diagnosis.
