SXSWclick Launches For Summer 2005

After a hugely successful 2005 event, South by Southwest (SXSW) is thrilled to announce the second edition of its Web-based multimedia summer festival. Changing its name this time from "SXSWeb" to the "SXSWclick Festival," the event kicks off with a call for entries on May 2, 2005. The name change comes as the festival preps itself to branch out beyond simply the SXSW Web site, embracing emerging technology in mobile media.

"With SXSWclick, we hope to take what we've created on the Web and make these new works available on other media," says SXSW Festival Producer Matt Dentler. "When we created this segment of the festival last summer, the idea was 'The sky's the limit.' Now, we're just pushing those limits even further."

Submissions will be accepted via the SXSW website (http://www.sxsw.com/film/click) beginning May 2 and the deadline will be June 10. This festival is open to all forms of graphic storytelling (from music videos to Flash animation and beyond), but works cannot be longer than five minutes to be eligible. Submissions are accepted as DVDs, VHS tapes, or as .swf files on disk.

Then, on July 1, a set of finalists will be chosen by the SXSW selection committee. These finalists will be posted on the SXSW Web site, and the general public will be invited to vote for their favorites. There will also be a jury evaluating the same finalists. On July 29, we'll announce this year's winners, who will be automatically accepted into the 2006 SXSW Film Festival, to be held March 10-18 in Austin, TX. The winners will also be available on the Web site for an extended period of time.

For more information, go to www.sxsw.com or e-mail film@sxsw.com.
