CD Review: "Stephen Kellogg and The Sixers", Self-titled CD

by Rick Landers

Foundation Records' release (February 15, 2005) of the new Stephen Kellogg and the Sixers self-titled CD is a stepping stone to the majors for the group. Kellogg's vocals are charged with romantic angst and charmed out twang -- a winning combo that pulled me back again and again for obsessive listening. Few CDs today have more than a single track that would bullet to the top of Billboard -- "SK and the 6ers" has at least four that could skyrocket up the charts with enough exposure -- probably more. "You've Changed" nails it with Kellogg the lingering boyfriend still pining for his girl, even though she's clearly moved along.

"Such A Way" anoints those sun bleached California girls with a passing nod then drifts into a lovely circumstance of one that stops him "...in my tracks". Playing at The Birchmere in Virginia a couple of weeks ago, the lads had the ladies swooning and guys nodding like "been there" -- all captured by this groups' talents that connect. Foundation Records needs to roll some videos out on this group who are even more charming and electrifying live. "SK and the 6ers" will be holstered in my CD player for some time. Highly Recommended!
